The Mantra Sadhna
(The Spiritual Practice using Mantras)

The Sanskrit Word Mantra comes from the root word Mana which means Mind, hence mantra chanting means a mental force. So mantra yoga is path of mental force.

The Vedic Shastras say, On can attain state of Yoga by means of Mantra also, and this method is called Mantra Yoga. As essentially goal of yoga is to go beyond mind.

Infact, the whole Vedas are said to a collection of Special Mantras and Hymns only.

Mantra Sadhna in itself can be used for mantra yoga… but other material purposes also, because utmost potential of “Antash-chetna”, “Inner conscious” of mind is infinite.

However one must remember, Mantra Sadhna is called a “kalisht Sadhna”, mean a very difficult spiritual practice. Out of all the paths of Yoga, Mantra Yoga is said to be the most difficult, the most rigorous one, this requires maximum discipline and whole hearted dedication. A half-hearted, weak will powered person can never dream to success in this path.

Still, if the effort is great, then the reward is also great!

The biggest advantage of Mantra Sadhna can be said to be the flexibility in use of your achievements through this. You can consciously, willfully control every aspect of your life! It may be physical, financial, social, emotional or even spiritual.

The Science of Mantras :

In reality, the power of mantra is generated by a persons mind when mind is continuously fixed on a mantra by chanting and focusing on it again and again..

Its like, mantra is a specific frequency.. like for FM radio 102.6 Hertz is frequency, now this frequency number in itself is not much… but it is the chosen set point for the broadcaster to send its signal… and the chosen set point at which the receiver must tune his receiving device, one that is done, all advantages can be gained.

 The Method of True Mantra Sadhna :

The Practical Application of Mantra Yoga has 16 Aspects which are to be practiced daily during your Sadhna :
(Like if a 3 day, 5 day.. 11 day.. 21 day Sadhna, then you must live by these rules till those days)
1) Bhakti
(To Have Devotion and Faith)
(Naard Navdha Bhakti)

Also Note : Belief is the basis of all the action in the universe!
And faith is a step ahead of belief.

Having an unwavering faith is the base for success in any sadhna or life endeavor as such. And in spiritual endeavor, faith and devotion towards god is must.
2) Shuddhi
(To keep Purity)

a) Dik = Sitting in right direction for japa, locking direction
b) Staan = Choosing pure place
c) Shareer = To cleanse ones body regularly
d) Man = To cleanse mind by pranyam
e) Asan = To choose right sitting mat

3) Asana
(Right body posture as per Sadhna)

4) Panchang Sevan
(To observe 5 Parts of Deity)

a) Isht Seva = Serving the Deity (with physical treats and good speech)
b) Sahasranam = Reading 1000 Names of deity
c) Stava Path = Reading pleasing Hyms of deity
d) Kawach Paath = Reading Astral Armour of deity
e) Hridyadi Nyas = Establishing Mantra energy in 6 Body Parts

5) Aachar
(Behavior, one must follow all the Yama Niyam rules for right conduct to everyone)

6) Dhaarna
(To keep mind established on your Sadhna and its Goal)

7) Divya-Desh Sevan
(To establish Prana Shakti (Enery) in 16 vital points of body during Japa Sadhna)

8) Pran-Kriya
(To do basic Pranyam and then accumalate this Prana in various body parts, like back for longer stamina etc)

9) Mudra
(In Mantra shastra, the special hand posture to please your Isht Deity)

10) Tarpan –
(To offer special ingredients to deity with mantras)

11) Havan
(To do fire obligations for Deity = Feeding him in fire form)

12) Bali
(This literally means killing beheading, but deep down it means surrender)

a) Atma = Self, Ego
b) Antar = Inner, mental defects like Lust, anger, ego
c) Bahya = Outer, by offering fruits etc (In Tamsik, animal)

13) Yoga
(To Do Union)

a) Bahir = Outer
b) Anatar = Inner

 

14) Japa
(Chanting)

a) Vachik = Audible Oral Chanting
b) Upanshu = Whisper chanting
c) Mansik = Mental Chanting, without moving lips or tongue

 

15) Dhyan
(Image Meditation, one must be able to view image on third eye with closes eye)

16) Samadhi
(To be get totally immersed in meditation, so as to loose the self, the meditator)
